Introduction

During ancient times in India, there wasn’t a house without a cow. In those days, we used to treat a cow with all the respect you would give to a mother or a family member. Also, a nation’s wealth, or the measure of how rich you are, was measured by the number of cows one owns.

According to the Vedas, among all the animals, the cow is an ideal animal in this world’s creation as it provides us with milk, complete food for all, containing high medicinal and nutritional values. By-products like Curd, Buttermilk, Cheese, Paneer, Butter, and Clarified Butter (Ghee), are made from cow milk.

To test the spirituality of any society, see how happy the cows are. The more the cow is happy, the more the society is pure and spiritually strong. If the cows are suffering, society has become degraded. त्वं माता सर्व देवानां त्वं च यज्ञस्य कारणम् । त्वं तीर्थ सर्वतीर्थानां नमस्तेस्तु सदानधे । “O Destroyer of sins! You are the mother of all Deities. You are the reason for yadnya (sacrificial fire). Among all Tirthas (Holy places), you are the holiest. I pay my obeisance to you.”
